Job description

Main tasks
The candidate's tasks include:
  • Building WARN-D. The candidate's core task will be building the early warning system for depression, based on all the data collected in WARN-D, using statistical and mathematical models from systems and network science, machine learning, or AI. This work will also include the implementation of the warning system, e.g. via a website, a novel smartphone app, or a function integrated in an existing app.
  • Working collaboratively. The candidate will take the lead in developing research questions and conducting research based on the WARN-D data, leading to novel publications to build their CV. The candidate will also support other team members via collaborations.
  • Data analysis. The candidate will lead statistical and programming efforts, and provide expertise to other team members.
  • Training & traveling. Money for national and international conferences, workshops, and other meetings is available. The candidate will be encouraged to present work at conferences, to connect to other projects, and to learn with and from national and international collaborators.
  • Project management. We have dedicated staff responsible for the administration of the project and communication with participants. Nonetheless, everybody in the team is expected to help out with study administration if needed. Administrative tasks will not exceed 0.1 fte per week.
  • Teaching. The position will entail 0.1 fte for student supervision and other teaching tasks.

Qualifications and interests

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A PhD and excellent track record in Quantitative Psychology, Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related study program.
  • Strong analytic and statistical skills, with a focus on network models, complex systems, and machine-learning/AI.
  • Strong computational skills (e.g., R, Python, or comparable).
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate and communicate in academia.

Terms and conditions

The appointment will start in March 2023, although there is some flexibility. The appointment is for one year with the possibility of another two years after a positive evaluation. The position consists of 90% research time and 10% teaching duties. Salary range from € 2,960.- to € 4,670.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 10, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
