Job description

The EUR-wide Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Office is looking for a project lead for Soft landing for new students.

The Erasmus University Rotterdam strives to be an inclusive university that:

The D&I Office exists of five related pillars: Education & students, Monitoring and Research, HR, an Academic Outreach programme, and an institutional pillar.

Amongst others, we work together with the Science Hub, the Pre Academic Programme and the Erasmus Ambassadors Office. In this way, we can create a diverse and inclusive pipeline, from primary education up to the highest academic positions, that is filled with all talents from our region and beyond.

To foster and facilitate a soft landing for all our students, we are looking for a new colleague.

Job Description
The project lead Soft Landing is to work towards student and study success for our bachelor students in the first period of their study. To foster a sense of belonging and increase student success we want to:

  1. Get an overview of the needs of the students.
  2. Make an overview of already existing activities, at the faculties and best practices in Rotterdam region.
  3. Develop a EUR-wide Soft Landing program.
  4. Come up with ways to embed the program within the organization.

As project lead your responsibilities will be to:

  • Involve all relevant stakeholders during the project.
  • Manage and achieve the objectives by taking responsibilities in guiding, coordinating, implementing and/or overviewing the activities and tasks necessary.
  • Ensure that all activities are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Program (pilot) project activities, together with other members of the team, such as the D&I communications advisor, and the student engagement officer.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, belonging to the tasks of the Diversity and Inclusion Office.

Requirements

  • An academic level of working and thinking in appropriate field of study.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience of leading projects in academia and/or experience in educational management in field of Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Vision on, and experience with, higher education policy developments related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong communication skills in English and Dutch.

Competences and personality
We are looking for someone that is: result-oriented, creative, decisive, with networking and collaborative capacity. Someone who has solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills, able to keep overview.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

We offer a contract for 0.8 to 1.0 fte, initially for one year.

In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (cao NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s knowledge and experience and is set at a minimum of € 2.960,-  and a maximum of € 4.670,- (scale 10) gross per month, on a fulltime basis.

The EUR has attractive employment conditions, including 8% holiday pay, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, the EUR is affiliated with the ABP pension scheme and we offer partially paid parental leave. Employees can also make use of EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus sports center and the university library.

The General Management Directorate (ABD)

The General Management Directorate (Algemene Bestuursdienst, ABD) is the central staff organisation responsible for the organisation and support of EUR’s policy and administration at the institutional level. ABD supports the Executive Board in fulfilling its responsibilities with regard to the quality, accessibility and financing of EUR’s education and research programmes. ABD handles the joint design of integrated policy, ensures the timely submission of policy within decision-making procedures and the implementation of the adopted policy measures and constantly monitors and evaluates developments in the interest of further improvement. ABD comprises the departments of Academic Affairs (AZ), Corporate Planning & Control (CPC), Administrative Affairs (BZ), Legal Affairs (JZ) and the Chief Information Office (CIO). The independent university publication Erasmus Magazine also falls under ABD in organisational terms. The management directorate is headed by the Director of the General Management Directorate, who also serves as Secretary of the Executive Board.

Diversity & Inclusion Office
Erasmus University Rotterdam works hard on its ambitions regarding diversity and inclusion. That is why a central Diversity & Inclusion Office (D&I@EUR) has been created, with a D&I team which is committed to furthering diversity and inclusion at the university. In addition, each faculty has their own Faculty Diversity Officer (FDO). The D&I programme exist of five pillars: Education & Students, Academic Outreach Programme, Monitoring and Research, HR, and an Institutional pillar.
