The Department of Media and Communication has a short-term, temporary vacancy for a Lecturer in Media and Creative Industries (WD) for 0.6-0.9 fte.

The successful candidate is expected to perform teaching and supervising tasks for the International Bachelor’s programme in Communication and Media (IBCoM) and/or the Master’s programmes in Media & Creative Industries.

Requirements

  • A relevant academic degree (preferably research master or PhD), in the social sciences or humanities, preferably in media and communication.
  • In-depth knowledge of media and creative industries research and current developments in the production, distribution and consumption of media and digital entertainment and/or media management, entrepreneurship and digital media technologies.
  • A broad knowledge of key theories and perspectives in the field of media and communication.
  • A broad knowledge and mastery of common quantitative and/or qualitative research methods in media and communication.
  • Prior teaching experience and the proven ability to inspire students.
  • Affinity and experience with media and communication research.
  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English. Non-English speakers have to meet the
    C1-standards of the Common European Framework (CEF).
  • Strong team-playing, organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in international academic settings.

Conditions of employment

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is August 15th, 2023. The position concerns a temporary contract which will be running for one-year until August 14th, 2024. After this period, an extension is possible. You will be based at the Campus Woudestein - Rotterdam.

The position is for 0,6 fte - 0,9 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 2.960 to a maximum of € 5.439 gross per month on a fulltime basis, in accordance with Scale 10 or 11 of the CAO-NU. In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme. The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) offers education and research in the fields of Media and Communication, History, and Arts and Culture Studies. The faculty has approximately 2400 students and 220 employees.

Media and Communication Department

The Media and Communication Department is a dynamic, internationally oriented department within the ESHCC. The department offers five international degree programmes: the International Bachelor’s programme in Communication and Media (IBCoM), four international Master’s programmes in Media Studies (Media & Business, Media & Creative Industries, Media, Culture & Society, Digitalisation, Surveillance & Society) and the Research master in the Sociology of Culture, Media and the Arts. The department has close ties with the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Communication and Culture (ERMeCC), the primary research institute at EUR in the field of Media, Communication and Culture.
