Job description

The Research Centre is the unit of HTH responsible for studying and discussing the academic developments in our discipline and for conducting top-ranking research on the main concerns, opportunities, and threats of the hospitality industry. It provides value to students and hospitality professionals through the dissemination of recent developments in the academic literature, and to Hotelschool the Hague by contributing to its positioning as an international top-ranking institute.

The Research Centre of Hotelschool The Hague has built a strong reputation both academically and in the professional world The Research Centre increasingly cooperates with business universities and with partners in the ‘Hotel Schools of Distinction’ network. The research team focuses on studying and exploring “tomorrow’s hospitality industry” by analysing the balance between “High Tech” and “High Touch”. The Research Centre has built a strong reputation both academically and professionally, and works closely with other academic institutions and industry partners to disseminate insights from research.

As the new Professor (Lector), your main responsibility will be to define, set up, develop, conduct and lead research into the business performance of hospitality organizations, establishing strong links to other research foci of the Hospitality Research Centre, such as Hospitality and Hospitable Behaviour, Technological Innovation, Sustainability and ESGs.

General function description

Together with the Director of the Research Centre and with fellow Professors you are responsible for developing and conducting practically relevant research. In interaction with the hospitality industry, you stimulate the innovation of knowledge and professionalisation of the teaching staff, in keeping with the strategic vision of Hotelschool The Hague.

You are responsible for the research programme within your research line and the quality of the research and its execution, coaching Bachelor, Master and PhD students, professionalisation of lecturers, dissemination of knowledge and curriculum renewal.

Requirements

You have/are:

  • The ideal candidate should be an internationally experienced researcher and educator with a background in a relevant discipline such as Business Economics, Accounting or Finance, and a demonstrable affinity with Hospitality Management.
  • The candidate must have an extensive network in the field and have active and productive contacts within education and research institutes in the Netherlands and abroad (as demonstrated by e.g. co-authored work, memberships or guest lectures).
  • A relevant Ph.D. degree and a track record of publishing in international academic journals in fields pertaining to the proposed research line are required.
  • The ideal candidate should have a demonstrable affinity with and knowledge of the hospitality industry and a proven track record in the acquisition of grants from science foundations and industry.
  • Strong collaborative abilities are required, as the candidate will be responsible for initiating and organizing collaborations with companies and institutions for the benefit of conducting research.
  • The candidate should have teaching experience at graduate and undergraduate level in a field relevant to higher hospitality management education (teaching load for this position is 15% approx.).
  • The candidate must possess a manifest ability to translate academic research into an appealing way to hospitality practitioners and hospitality education audiences and be able to present work in trade journals.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 4-6 years.

Hotelschool The Hague offers a salary based on scale 14 the labour agreement of Universities of Applied Science (CAO HBO) with a range between € 5.670,10. and € 7.227,85 gross per month, or scale 15 with a range between € 6.149,92. and € 7.940,29 gross per month for candidates with ample international professional experience and exceptional academic qualifications

Hotelschool The Hague works with a 40-hour workweek. The starting date for this position is September 2023.

We initially offer a 4-6 year contract starting at September. The position is situated equally across both our The Hague and Amsterdam campuses. Residence in the Netherlands is required for this position.
