Job description

The Department of Applied Economics of the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Applied Economics (Development, Urban/Regional, IO, Strategy). The appointment is for four years.

You will have a PhD in Economics and expertise in Applied Micro- and/or Development Economics, with a focus on empirical analysis using micro data. You will have latitude to follow your own research agenda, although collaboration with faculty and PhD students in Urban and Regional Economics, and Organisation and Strategy Economics is expected. The position is research focused with a reduced teaching load of one course per academic year plus theses supervision.

Requirements

The successful candidate is expected to hold a recently acquired Ph.D. in Economics or Econometrics with demonstrated research expertise in Applied Micro- and/or Development Economics, preferably with experience in Urban and Regional Economics. The position requires strong quantitative skills and an ability to handle and manage micro data sets. Candidates should demonstrate strong potential for high-level international publications and an excellent knowledge of English.

Conditions of employment

The appointment will be to the position of postdoctoral research fellow for a period of 4 years. The preferred starting date is September 1, 2018. Remuneration will be in accordance with scale 11 set by the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Fulltime work (38 hours per week) will pay between € 3.475 and € 4.757 depending on the experience of the candidate. In addition, there is an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

The Department of Applied Economics is one of the four departments of the ESE. The researchers within the Department are organised in three research groups, i.e. Health Economics, Behavioural Economics and Organisation, Strategy & Entrepreneurship Economics. The research groups work in close cooperation with the Tinbergen and ERIM research institutes, two leading centres for Economics and Management research in Europe. Urban and Regional Economics at Erasmus School of Economics

At the ESE, research in Applied Micro-Economics and Development Economics has a strong embedding in the growing discipline of Urban and Regional Economics research, which is embedded in the Department of Applied Economics. The core group consists of Frank van Oort, Bas Karreman, Nicola Cortinovis and Michiel Gerritse. Frank van Oort is Professor of Urban and Regional Economics and has published a variety of papers on structural change and urban and regional economics in recent years. Dr. Bas Karreman is Associate Professor and wrote his PhD on topics related to financial geography and regional economics. Dr. Nicola Cortinovis and Dr. Michiel Gerritse are experts on urban and regional development issues in relation to structural change, government spending and (spatial) econometrics.
