Job description

The Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE) has a vacancy for a full professor 'Teacher Professionalization and Innovation in particular with regard to the STEM Domain'. ESoE is the expertise centre of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) regarding the professional development of (future) teachers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) domain. More specifically, ESoE offers a Master's program in Science Education and Communication, in which teachers are educated to become so-called first-degree ('eerstegraads') teachers in mathematics, physics, chemistry, research and design, and computer science. ESoE also offers an educational module that leads to a second-degree teaching competence mainly offered to bachelor students. ESoE conducts scientific research in the area of professional development of (future) teachers, in particular with regard to science education. ESoE also supports and promotes educational innovations through professional development, consultancy and applied research, both at the TU/e and at educational institutions / schools in the region.

Job description

The professor
  • Is (co-)responsible for the three main areas of ESoE (teacher education, research and innovation);
  • Is a recognized expert in his/her field;
  • Is able and willing to work with colleagues with different disciplinary backgrounds in accordance with ESoE's mission and vision;
  • Provides education (subjects to be determined) in the teacher education program and supervises Master's students with their research projects;
  • Promotes practice-oriented educational research of high academic quality;
  • Contributes to innovations in schools for secondary education, as well as in the own university and in higher education in general;
  • Is actively involved in the TU/e qualification of teachers (UTQ);
  • Is active in entering into partnerships regarding the main areas of ESoE and enhances the visibility of ESoE both internally and externally.

    Requirements

    Requirements:
  • Educational background with demonstrable affinity with STEM education both in secondary and higher education, or STEM background in both secondary and higher education with demonstrable affinity with educational theory / general didactics;
  • Experience / familiarity with the education of STEM teachers for secondary and  higher education;
  • Good scientific reputation / track record within a field relevant to the job and evidenced,  among other things, by publications in high-quality scientific journals;
  • Experience with and successful in supervising PhD research in STEM education and / or subjects relevant to teacher education and educational innovation;
  • Is part of national and international networks relevant to the job;
  • Proven to be successful in acquiring external funding for research and innovation;
  • Preferably member of the national research school ICO.

  • Conditions of employment

    Working conditions:
  • A temporary appointment, provisionally for a period of 4 years. with the possibility of permanent employment depending on performance;
  • Appointment (professor level 2) depending on proven qualities (based on CAO Dutch Universities);
  • Holiday allowance (8%, in May) and end-of-year bonus (8.3%, in December);
