The Theoretical Particle Physics group at the University of Amsterdam invites applications for a PhD position starting in the Fall of 2018. The position will be under the supervision of Dr Wouter Waalewijn.

The group working on Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Amsterdam consists of Prof. Eric Laenen and Dr Wouter Waalewijn, four postdoctoral researchers and four PhD students. It is part of the Institute of Physics and also the Nikhef theory group. Nikhef is the Dutch national laboratory for particle and astroparticle physics research. It has a large theory group (eleven staff, fifteen postdocs, thirteen PhDs), and enables direct interactions with experimentalists (ATLAS, LHCb, etc). The successful applicant would be part of this stimulating environment.

This position is funded by the NWO projectruimte 'New methods for precise predictions at the LHC'.

A MSc. in Physics or an equivalent degree is required to be considered for this position. A background in Quantum Field Theory is desirable. You need to possess good written and oral English communication skills.

The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a period of 4 years (initial appointment will be for a period of 18 months and after satisfactory evaluation it can be extended for a total duration of 4 years) and should lead to a dissertation (PhD thesis). An educational plan will be drafted that includes attendance of courses and (international) meetings. We also expect you to assist in teaching of undergraduates.

Based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week) the gross monthly salary will range from €,222 in the first year to €2.840 in the last year. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (Cao) is applicable.
