Job description

You will work as a Ph.D. student on the "Measuring the Bioeconomy - BioMonitor" project. The overall objective of the project is to establish a statistics and modelling framework for the bioeconomy that is supported by a stakeholders' platform and compatible with and implementable in existing systems of statistical and customs offices, laboratories and industries. The framework will enable the quantification of bioeconomy and its economic, environmental and social impacts in the EU and its Member States via a wide range of indictors.

You will be involved in developing a framework to measure and analyse the development of the EU bioeconomy and in developing new (and extending existing) methodologies to fill the bioeconomy data gaps and safeguard the data availability in the short, medium and long run. You will use the framework to quantitatively measure the future impacts of present day decisions on the EU bioeconomy.

Requirements

We ask you to have a strong motivation and enthusiasm in the project, as well as the following:
  • A master's degree in Agricultural Economics or a related field
  • Research experience or demonstrated affinity with one or several of the following subjects will be a plus: investment under uncertainty, real option models, economic modelling.
  • Experience with working in an interdisciplinary group of scientists will be a plus
  • Excellent communicative skills (fluency in English required)

Conditions of employment

We offer:
In principle this is a 48 month PhD position. We offer you a temporary contract for 18 months which will be extended with 30 months after a positive evaluation. Salary will increase from € 2,222 gross per month in the first year up to € 2,840 in the last year, based on full-time employment (38 hours a week). In addition, we offer a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-the-year bonus of 8.3% of your annual salary.
