Job description

As a PhD candidate you will work on a project to study the hydration-dehydration transition of (doped) salt hydrates in order to control and optimise the crystal morphology for their use as heat storage materials. This four-year PhD project will be conducted by the Solid State Chemistry group at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (Radboud University, Nijmegen) and is part of a collaboration on ’materials for heat storage’ led by Dr Huinink of the Eindhoven University of Technology.

Requirements

As a PhD candidate you must have an MSc degree in chemistry, physics or materials science and should be interested in the physical chemistry of crystal growth. Good experimental skills are required, but previous experience with crystal growth is not a prerequisite. This project will be performed through interactions with various people. You should therefore have good social skills (and a good command of spoken and written English). You must be willing to finish your PhD in four years.

Conditions of employment


A maximum gross motnhly salary € 2,840 based on a 38-hour working week
you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years
- you will be classified as a PhD Candidate in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO)
the gross starting salary amounts to €2,222 per month, and will increase to €2,840 in the fourth year
