Job description

There is one PhD position available for the project:

1. Degrees of Responsibility
Whereas we ordinarily assume that responsibility comes in degrees, the emphasis in the literature has been on the question whether or not an agent is responsible, rather than on the question how we can arrive at a judgement of the different degrees in which individuals are responsible. Drawing on tools from formal epistemology, decision theory, and causal analysis, an account of gradual responsibility will be developed and its policy implications will be examined.

And the other available PhD position is for the project:

2. Decision making and responsibility allocation
This project investigates the relation between decision-making in groups and the distribution of responsibility among members of the group. The aim is to determine how group decision making needs to be organized in such a way that the allocation of responsibility within the group becomes fair and transparent. This helps to accommodate the role of computer systems in teams, and fosters a better understanding and perception of responsibility among the group members.

Prof. J.W. Romeijn is supervisor of both projects and promotor.
