Job description

Within the Chair group of Applied Statistics we have a vacancy for an assistant professor in Applied Statistics. We search for someone whose statistical expertise can contribute to the further development of one of the research themes within Biometris, like Statistical Genetics and Genomics and Quantitative Biology / Ecology. In addition to statistical expertise, we expect candidates to have an active interest in life sciences and be able to translate life science problems into statistical modelling questions. We expect candidates to possess or develop skills in writing research proposals and to attract PhDs and external funding. Furthermore, you should be a stimulating teacher, and contribute to the international profile of the group.

Requirements

Candidates should have a demonstrable track record in research in the area of statistics or quantitative biology. You are able to contribute to developments in statistical methodology in the key areas of the group (statistical genetics and genomics, quantitative biology / ecology). You are a motivating teacher with experience in teaching statistics courses to life scientists. You are a team player and team builder with a keen interest in collaborative research and willing to contribute to the general tasks of the chair group.

Wageningen University offers talented scientists a challenging Tenure Track career trajectory. Once appointed as Assistant Professor you can grow into a Professor holding a Personal Chair. Career steps follow an assessment of performance at predefined times by a tenure track committee.

This is initially a seven year position in which you will enter the tenure track. We provide a stimulating environment for science, with commitment to help you develop in your career. We offer you a temporary contract which will be extended if you perform well. Gross salary per month: from € 3.475,- up to € 4.757,- (Scale 11 VSNU) based on full time employment and depending on expertise and experience. In addition, we offer a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-the-year bonus of 8.3% of your annual salary.

The selected candidates will be interviewed by a recruitment committee (second round).

Biometris is the central group for mathematics and statistics at Wageningen University and Research Centre. The group consists of about 75 people, 50 permanent staff and 25 PhDs and postdocs. Education and consultation are pivotal for the societal role of Biometris. Education is at the very heart of the university and Biometris provides all BSc courses on statistics and mathematics at Wageningen UR, as well as numerous other courses for MSc and PhD students, post-docs and industry. Biometris also provides statistical and mathematical consultancy and training to researchers inside and outside Wageningen UR.

Within Biometris we focus our research on the development of mathematical and statistical techniques that can be applied to the Life Sciences.
