Job description

Within the Chair group of Applied Mathematics we have a vacancy for a lecturer in Applied Mathematics, who is also interested in performing research in the field of mathematical modelling for the Life Sciences, e.g., in Systems Biology. We search for an enthusiastic, skillful, and stimulating lecturer as well as a coach in working groups and computer practicals. Initially your primary task is lecturing basic and more advanced mathematics to students in all disciplines of Wageningen University. You are expected to contribute to the examination and the course evaluation, and to the improvement and/or renewal of courses, in collaboration with colleagues within Biometris. Preference is given to candidates who intend to also build up in the long run a scientific research career, e.g. by entering a tenure track.

Requirements

The ideal candidate:
  • has an MSc in mathematics, physics or a closely related field with a strong mathematical component;
  • has completed a PhD in the area of mathematics, physics or quantitative biology;
  • is an enthusiastic lecturer, who likes to teach mathematics to (international) students in a broad range of disciplines;
  • has good communication skills, both with students and colleague;
  • is fluent in the Dutch and English languages.

This is a part time position (0.8 FTE), lecturer 3, Hayscale. The gross salary ranges from €3.475,- to € 4.757,- (Scale 11 VSNU) based on full time, i.e. 38 hours/week, depending on qualities and experience. We offer a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-the-year bonus of 8.3% of your annual salary.

Biometris is the central group for mathematics and statistics at Wageningen University and Research Centre. The group consists of about 75 people, 50 permanent staff and 25 PhDs and postdocs. Education and consultation are pivotal for the societal role of Biometris. Education is at the very heart of the university and Biometris provides nearly all BSc courses on mathematics, statistics, and research methodology at Wageningen UR, as well as numerous other courses for MSc and PhD students, post-docs and industry. Biometris also provides statistical and mathematical consultancy and training to researchers inside and outside Wageningen UR.

Within Biometris, we focus our research on the development of mathematical and statistical techniques that can be applied to the Life Sciences.
