The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is expanding its expertise in the field of Chemical Biology. The positions are embedded within the Laboratory of Chemical Biology and Institute for Complex Molecular systems (ICMS).

About TU/e:

Within the health arena, several departments cooperate on topics such as Model-based clinical decision support, (Molecular) Imaging, Regenerative Medicine, Biosensing, and Chemical Biology, with a close link to medical centers and industry. The Department of Biomedical Engineering offers Bachelor's and Master's programs in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Engineering and a joint Master's program in Regenerative Medicine and Technology together with Utrecht University.

Position description:

In this position we are looking for scientists who address contemporary biomedical challenges via innovative molecular approaches, ranging from organic chemistry to molecular cell biology. The already existing groups in the Laboratory of Chemical Biology (Albertazzi, Brunsveld, Dankers, de Greef, van Hest, Meijer, Merkx, Ottmann, Prins) have a broad background including organic chemistry and drug discovery, protein engineering and molecular sensors, polymer chemistry and drug delivery, bionanotechnology and structural biology. Similarly we are considering excellent candidates from diverse background both in terms of scientific approach and questions.

The researcher will be selected on basis of scientific excellence during her or his PhD and post-doc to enhance and complement the current research in the laboratory of Chemical Biology. You are expected to set-up an independent line of research, with international exposure and reputation and prove your ability to attract research funding, making use of the embedding offered by the Laboratory of Chemical Biology and the Institute for Complex Molecular systems (ICMS).

Tasks in Research:

We are considering candidates with a strong chemical biology focus in the broadest sense, but especially encourage you to apply when your research centers around a systems approach to chemical biology. Integration of different hierarchic levels in your molecular design and analysis, as well as forefront technological adaptation are strongly desired.

Tasks in Education:

You will be expected to contribute to high quality education of a diverse student body at both the undergraduate and graduate levels of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Excellent communication skills and previous teaching experience are required. You will supervise BSc students, MSc students and PhD candidates.

Requirements:

We are seeking junior scientists at assistant professor level, engaged in high impact research. You should have a PhD or equivalent in chemical biology or a closely related discipline. You should have a drive to build your own research line within the Laboratory of Chemical Biology. You should be considered a talent in your own area of expertise, typically evidenced by a strong publication record and an (inter)national network within the academic world and industry. You should also be a team player with a collaborative/entrepreneurial spirit, engaged in interdisciplinary research.
