Job description

The eye disorder glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Last resort treatment is surgical intervention: glaucoma filtration surgery. The current project is a part of a large, public-private funded project aimed to set a new standard of glaucoma filtration surgery. We will develop a new, innovative filtration implant and a tailor-made, sustained medication regimen. To achieve this, a consortium was founded consisting of several departments of the University Maastricht, the TU/e and a number of (inter)national companies.

The postdoc will select and design the new medication regimen on the basis of in vitro bioassays and select an appropriate drug delivery system. In addition, you will supervise the animal experiments in which prototypes of implants and medication regimen will be tested. This work will be performed in a team of senior scientists, ophthalmologists, PhDs, and technicians.
