The Associate Professor/Academic director of Education is responsible for:
• the cross-disciplinary coordination of the team of Academic directors in order to create together with them an engaging, high quality, and broad liberal arts and sciences programme at bachelor level
• scholarly and research activity, preferably in the field of interdisciplinary academic education and proportionate to the overall workload assignment
• the development, planning, implementation, management and evaluation of the UCG curriculum and the UCG individual guidance system
• assuring the quality of the UCG curriculum, i.e. the development and coordination of the system of course evaluations, curriculum evaluations, etc., and on the basis of this the implementation of improvement measures (including advice concerning the professional development for academic staff), as well as the fulfilment of accountability requirements, i.e. annual reports, accreditation reports, etc.
• the development, updating and adoption of guiding documents such as the Teaching and Exam Regulation (OER), the Faculty Handbook, the Tutor Handbook, the Student Handbook, the Codes of Conduct, the Course Catalogue and the Course Schedule
• the organization of class enrolment per semester, i.e. course planning, scheduling, and the assignment of students to courses, as administered in the course management system
• representing UCG outside UCG in other UG faculties and outside UG.

Candidates are inspiring academic educators and:

• possess a doctorate (PhD) and extensive track record in interdisciplinary research
• have considerable experience of teaching in interdisciplinary undergraduate contexts with a deep commitment to teaching (SKO or equivalent)
• demonstrate a particular interest in interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and research
• have experience in managing study programmes and academic staff and can demonstrate excellent organizational and leadership skills
• have experience in quality assurance mechanisms (including accreditation trajectories)
• have a strong international profile and network and a good understanding of liberal arts and science education
• have an excellent English language proficiency and preferably proficiency in Dutch
• are willing to engage with students and to join a multidisciplinary and international team
• are able to reach out to external stakeholders and constituencies to enrich the curriculum and the student learning experience
• value diversity and inclusiveness as an intrinsic element of professional relationships in academia.

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

The University of Groningen offers depending on academic record and experience, a salary of € 5,059 to € 6,438 gross per month (scale 14), based on 38 hours per week. UFO profile: Associate professor 1. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable. A full-time appointment is offered, which will include research time (0.4 FTE)

A temporary contract for one year will be offered in the first instance, with the possibility of tenure.

University College Groningen (UCG) is a faculty of the University of Groningen and is looking for an Associate Professor/Academic Director of Education. The Faculty was created in September 2014 and currently hosts an English-taught Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) programme. Staff and students are highly internationally diverse. UCG aims to develop as a distinctive faculty of the University of Groningen, with an annual enrollment of 200 students in the LAS programme that marks a unique footprint in the international arena of academic Bachelor education by 2020. The new Associate Professor/Academic director of education at UCG is expected to be the key figure in assuring the UCG’s mission of “creating horizon, scholarship and leadership” for each individual student of the Liberal Arts and Sciences bachelor programme. As Academic director of Education, the Associate Professor is assisted in these tasks by the Senior Tutor, the Head of student affairs and the department of Student Affairs and reports to the Faculty Board and supports the development and implementation of the overall mission, strategy and positioning of the college.
