Job description

What you will do
You will organise and improve the PhD process within one of the largest faculties of Erasmus University Rotterdam. This process is wide-ranging: you will be jointly responsible for recruiting and selecting new PhD candidates, supporting PhD students during their studies and supporting recently graduated PhDs to find employment (placement). You will also focus, together with colleagues, on developing, implementing and/or modifying research policy consistent with the strategy of the faculty and the university as a whole. It is a challenging and varied job in which you can develop and learn!

In short, your main tasks will include:
Policy result areas:
• Cooperate in the preparation, development and implementation of policy, with respect to clearly described issues
• Translate policy into implementation
• Handle issues within a delineated focus area
• Frequent harmonisation between senior policy officers and/or the coordinator and/or head of the department
• Participate in consultation structures and cooperative networks
• Provide (statistical) information about PhD graduations for external and internal reports

PhD result areas:
• Organise processes and initiate improvements
• Cooperate in the development of policy
• Establish monitoring and tracking of PhD candidates regarding quality assurance and signalling
• Initiate networks
• Contact person for potential and actual PhD candidates
• Support in recruitment, selection and placement

You will work with
As PhD Officer/Policy Officer, you will become part of the Erasmus School of Economics Research Office (4 FTE) where you will work closely with immediate colleagues. The Research Office is managed by the Dean of Research. The Research Office supports our scientists, supervises the application for funding and grants, supplies research data, and is responsible for quality assurance of research and the organisation of the PhD process. The team is young and highly ambitious.

What we ask of you
You are customer-oriented, accurate and a strong organiser: the current PhD process and the further improvement of this process will be in good hands due to your skills. You are sensitive to the needs of PhD students and organise that which is needed to recruit and support the best candidates. You have a strong international orientation and you are able to translate national and international developments regarding research, education and quality assurance into new policy. You absorb new information quickly and are quick to oversee processes and workflows. You are able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and you find it interesting and challenging to be involved in strategy and policy topics.
Ideally you have a university level education, for example in communication or social sciences, and have a strong affinity with a university environment. Experience in working for a university is considered an asset. You are fluent in both spoken and written English. Please note that although we consider it a benefit if you are also fluent in Dutch (written and verbal), this is not a requirement.
