Employer

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is a leading, innovative and growing university that is at the heart of society and contributes actively to new developments in teaching and research. Our university has ten faculties which span a wide range of disciplines, as well as several institutes, foundations, research centres, and support services. Its campus is located in the fastest-growing economic region in the Netherlands (the Zuidas district of Amsterdam), and provides work for over 4,500 staff and scientific education for more than 23,000 students. Diversity is a core value of the VU. We stand for an inclusive community and believe that diversity and internationalization contribute to the quality of education and research. We are therefore constantly looking for people who contribute to the diversity of our campus through their background and experience.

Department

The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) looks at the major social problems of our time from more than one perspective. From bullying at school to how to deal with illegal immigration, from the rise of populist politicians to the shaping of a self-reliant society. FSS combines all the disciplines that are needed to be able to understand these 'wicked problems': in addition to classical disciplines such as sociology, anthropology and political science and public administration, also new social sciences such as communication science and organization science. In our education and research we do not settle for easy answers. Our scientists and students are critical thinkers and doers who together develop surprising solutions.

Department of Organization Sciences
The research program of the Department of Organization Sciences, “Organizations & Processes of Organizing within Society: Interdependencies & Instability (OPOS II)” specifically focuses on social processes, in particular those processes related to organizational interdependence and instability. We take a multilevel social-scientific approach to organizations, examining both micro and macro level social issues. This means that as a department, our interest in organizations is in both the interactions and relationships between individuals and groups within organizations, as well as in the interactions and relationships between organizations. The central goal of our research program is to increase understanding of the way in which organizations and people within these organizations, interact towards and relate with each other.

The teaching program consists of a Dutch-language, three-year Bachelor program (“Public Administration and Organizations”) and two one-year Master programs. The Dutch-language Master program, “Policy, Communication and Organization” consistently attracts around 200 students, and the international program, “Culture, Organization and Management” has in 2018 been ranked as Top Master Program in the Netherlands’ higher education ranking.
