Job description

We invite applications for both junior (tenure-track) and senior faculty positions. Research in the Department of Bionanoscience is aimed at a quantitative, mechanistic understanding of how interactions at the nanoscale lead to biological function at the cellular scale. Current research activities include single-molecule biophysics, nanotechnology, synthetic biology, and cell biology. We welcome applications in the entire range from nanophysics to synthetic and cell biology to complement and strengthen our current activities. We seek group leaders with an outstanding scientific track record, researchers with a creative and collaborative mentality who appreciate scientific and engineering challenges in quantitative life sciences and who through their research, management skills, and teaching qualities can inspire co-workers and students alike. Successful candidates are expected to establish a strong, externally funded research programme and to be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate (Dutch or English) and graduate level (English). We especially welcome applications from female scientists. Applicants should hold a PhD. Dutch language skills are not required.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for an Assistant Professor is € 5513 per month gross, for an Associate Professor, € 6567 and for a Full Professor, €9563. Terms of employment and length of contract vary according to the position.

Faculty Applied Sciences

The Faculty of Applied Sciences is the largest faculty of TU Delft, with around 550 scientists, a support staff of 250 and 1,800 students. The faculty conducts fundamental, application-oriented research and offers scientific education at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The faculty is active in the fields of Life and Health Science & Technology, Nanoscience, Chemical Engineering, Radiation Science & Technology, and Applied Physics.

The Department of Bionanoscience (www.bn.tudelft.nl), part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Delft University of Technology and part of the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience Delft (www.kavli.nl), is dedicated to pioneering, fundamental research at the interface between physics and biology. This young, international department was established in 2010 and has since expanded to currently 15 faculty members. The department offers excellent general facilities, including a central optical microscopy facility, a cryo-EM facility, extensive general cell biology and biochemistry facilities, and a large cleanroom facility, the Kavli Nanolab Delft. The Department strives for a collegial, nourishing, and inclusive environment. Since 2012, together with the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Department runs a Bachelor and Master program in Nanobiology, which provides a thorough combined training in biology and physics.
