Job description

The candidate will organise or teach a course in the area of design fundamentals. He/she has the responsibility for the student design project (supported by staff members having relevant skills and know-how). As a part of this task, he/she will train transferable skills relevant to design work in groups.

Design teaching in the master focuses on design in industrial and public organizations which are important employers for our future graduates.

The design component in the master programme will contain :

(i) a course on design procedures and skills

and

(ii) projects suggested by industrial or public partners which are to be carried out by students in groups and which results in an on- paper design or in a partially realised product.

The candidate will be responsible for the design component in the master programme.

Requirements

You have a PhD in (Applied) Physics and have experience in the field of Applied Physics design.

You have a solid network in industry or public, non-academic organisations with a strong design and physics component.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in research & development, in industry and/or research institutions. Through his/her network, he/she can find design projects which have a strong (applied) physics component and are suitable for and appealing to master students in Applied Physics.

The supervision of these projects will be shared among the teaching staff of the program, the industrial or public partners supplying the design projects, and the new lecturer. 

 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

This position has an amount of 8 working hours per week (0.2 fte). The offer contains a temporary appointment for 1 year with possibility for extension. A secondment (detachering) is possible for this position.

Faculty Applied Sciences

The Faculty of Applied Sciences is the largest faculty of TU Delft, with around 550 scientists, a support staff of 250 and 1,800 students. The faculty conducts fundamental, application-oriented research and offers scientific education at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The faculty is active in the fields of Life and Health Science & Technology, Nanoscience, Chemical Engineering, Radiation Science & Technology, and Applied Physics.

The position is in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. The lecturer will be embedded in one of the departments Imaging Physics, Quantum Nanoscience or Radiation Science and Technology, depending on his/her background. It is important that he/she has affinity with the work done in the department in order to facilitate the embedding and stimulate fruitful interaction between the lecturer and the research staff.

The faculty of Applied Sciences seeks a lecturer in Applied Physics Design in order to strengthen the teaching in this field within the master programme of Applied Physics.

A design component has recently been introduced in the bachelor programme and is now running, with enthusiastic students.
