Job description

You will be part of the group Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Programming (DMMP), segment of the Operations Research Cluster within AM. Our main research areas are in discrete optimization, algorithms, mathematical optimization as well as algorithmic game theory and our application areas are energy, traffic, and logistics. THE CHALLENGE
  • You do research on high international level in Mathematical Optimization and participate in the teaching of the department AM;
  • You teach BSc courses in AM, MSc courses with specialization in Operations Research and nationwide MSc and PhD programmes of Mastermath (www.mastermath.nl) as well as the Dutch Network for the Mathematics of OR (www.lnmb.nl) ;
  • You give lectures in English. Mastering the Dutch language is not a prerequisite, but naturally a long term goal;
  • A high degree of responsibility and independence, while collaborating with close colleagues, researchers and other university staff is expected.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD in any relevant area of Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science or Econometrics;
  • You have a track record in Mathematical Optimization;
  • You work in the intersection of discrete and nonlinear optimization (however a profile in closely related fields will receive full consideration too).

  • The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Universities (CAO), and include:
  • a starting salary from € 3.545 to € 5.513 gross per month, based on relevant work experience;
  • a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%;
  • a solid pension scheme.

In case of excellent qualifications, an employment in a tenure track is possible, and comes with higher expectations and faster career perspectives.
