Job description

The department of Electrical Energy Systems at the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology is currently accepting applications for a 2-year post-doctoral researcher position in the area of digital power and energy systems. The researcher will contribute to various projects including OPZuid Smart Energy management, TKI Toeslag PQ in control, and TKI Toeslag UNICORN.

The recent EU Climate and Energy Package ('the Winter Package') includes local energy communities (LECs) as a way to tackle the complexity of energy system integration (ESI) across multiple pathways and geographical scales to deliver reliable, cost-effective energy services. The energy infrastructure needs to evolve in order to utilize the flexibility potential of LECs to decrease peak-load consumption while improving energy efficiency and resiliency. Therefore, development of self-management schemes for LECs involving detection of flexibility in usage data, coordination software methods for congestion management and Power Quality control is needed. The postdoc candidate is expected to conduct research into the three topics above to strengthen technological capabilities of local energy communities. A particular focus is on the TU/e campus network as a self-regulated microgrid. Candidates should have a solid background in power engineering or smart grids, especially in distribution networks. Experience in advanced control solution for power electronic interfaces and/or Information and Communication Technology would be highly appreciated. Research activities will be conducted in a close collaboration with Alliander, TNO, DNV GL, and other industry partners.
