Job description

The department of Electrical Energy Systems at the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology is currently accepting applications for a PhD candidate in the area of self-organising marketplace to realize a self-organised sustainable power system. The researcher will contribute to project AGILE under the NWO program Complexity - Programmable Self-organization. 

The PhD candidate is expected to conduct research into designing self-organising market mechanisms and corresponding distributed software to enable a smart and sustainable electrical power system. Besides an adequate electrical power engineering background, strong mathematic background and experience in the complexity theory would be highly appreciated. Research activities will be conducted in a close collaboration with TNO, CWI, Twente Univerity, and other industry partners.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Candidates for this position should have a PhD degree in Electrical Power (Energy) Systems or a related field.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical distribution networks, especially in relevant topics of demand response, power quality, power electronic interfaces e.g. solar PV inverters, signal processing, etc.;
  • Excellent relevant modeling skills in Matlab/Simulink and/or Python; Experience with software simulation tools for power flow calculations, e.g. Vision or PowerFactory;
  • Strong competence in applied mathematics, optimization, and complexity theory;
  • Willingness to start as soon as possible;

  • Conditions of employment

    We offer a fixed-term, 4 year position in a research group with an excellent reputation. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, including:
  • A gross monthly salary between EUR 2266,- (first year) and EUR 2897- (last year).
  • Additionally, 8% holiday and 8.3% end-of-year annual supplements.
  • A minimum of 41 holidays per year (excluding bank holidays, for a full-time employment of 40 hrs/week)
