Maastricht University's School of Business and Economics is looking for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) of Econometrics.

Job description

The Department of Quantitative Economics (QE) of the School of Business and Economics (SBE) is looking for an Assistant Professor (on a tenure track position) in Econometrics, with special interest in one or more of the following areas: theoretical econometrics, time series econometrics, micro-econometrics, panel data, and high-dimensional statistics. The QE department has a strong research record in econometrics, operations research and economic theory. It is largely responsible for the bachelor and master programs in Econometrics and Operations Research, including Mathematical Economics and Actuarial Science, with yearly enrollment of around 90 bachelor and 35 master students (See https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/research/department-quantitative-economics).

Requirements

Profile of the candidate:

  • has a PhD (or close to completion) in Econometrics or Statistics;

  • has a  strong research orientation;

  • has experience with education in statistics, econometrics and related topics;

  • is an enthusiastic and cooperative colleague, willing to collaborate with the econometrics group and the QE department as a whole in research and teaching;

  • As the language of instruction is English, your command of English (oral and writing) should be excellent;

  • Experience with teaching international classrooms would be preferable.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: ten years (tenure track).

Candidates receive a one-off temporary employment contract for ten years as an assistant professor (level 2). Five years after the appointment, or sooner if the pre-established criteria have been met, a permanent position as assistant professor (level 1) is granted. The ten-year contract allows for any delays arising from special circumstances such as maternity leave, parental leave or long-term illness.​The terms of employment of Maastricht University are set out in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO- NU). Gross monthly salary is between € 3.637,00 and € 5.656,00 (starting salary scale is 11 UD2). On top of this, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% year-end bonus. Foreign applicants could be eligible for a favorable tax treatment (30% rule).

Department of Quantitative Economics

The Department of Quantitative Economics teaches and conducts research in the areas of Economic Theory, Actuarial Science, Econometrics and Operations Research. Both in teaching and in research it achieves excellent standards. The department is structured in three groups: Econometrics, Mathematical Economics, Operations Research. These groups cooperate in offering courses for various BSc and MSc programmes.
The department offers courses in Quantitative Methods (Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research) and various elective courses in all BSc programmes of the School of Business and Economics (SBE). It also offers courses in many master programmes, including the Research Master EFR (Economic and Financial Research).
