Job description

Job description

As a post-doc you will work within a team of researchers / designers / graduate students on the design, prototyping and field-evaluation of interactive systems that support professional target-groups such as teachers and nurses in their complex everyday routines. These interactive systems rely on peripheral interaction: an exciting field within HCI which designs and studies interactions that take place outside the focus of the user's attention, and seamlessly blend into the everyday routine. Core challenges in this field include conceptualizing interactions which are supportive but non-intrusive, and developing suitable methods to empirically evaluate such designs is the real context of use. Specifically, we explore the use of ambient information systems, tangible interaction, implicit interaction and automatic system behavior to provide professionals with effortless access to relevant information and interactions that can fluently blend into their work-routines. As part of this team, you will be involved in:
  • Conceptualising, designing and prototyping interactive systems for peripheral interaction
  • Conducting (qualitative) field-research in the domain of healthcare and/or classroom teaching
  • Supervising relevant student projects
  • Publishing in high-standard international journals and conferences in the field of HCI
  • Building and maintaining relevant professional networks
  • Setting up project proposals and applying for funding for future research

  • Experience working with professional target groups, preferably in the domain of healthcare and/or classroom teaching
