Job description

Since 2013 Erasmus University College (EUC) offers the international undergraduate programme in Liberal Arts and Sciences. With its own city campus and up to 700 students, over 80 staff members and cooperation with another 100 colleagues from various schools and universities, EUC is a thriving and well-regarded academic community.

We are now looking for a strategic and energetic Managing Director, who looks forward to consolidating EUC into its next phase.

Context

Erasmus University College (EUC) is part of Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB), which itself is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), a top 100 research university. EUC consists of four academic departments (Humanities, Economics & Business, Life Sciences and Social & Behavioural Sciences) and the Dean’s Office.

The Managing Director heads the Dean’s Office, which supports both the undergraduate programme and the organisation of EUC. Besides the Office Manager and the Secretary, the Dean’s Office houses three teams:

  • The Counselling, Advice & Study Abroad-team (CASA);

  • The Marketing, Recruitment, Admissions & Integration-team (MRAI);

  • The Office of Student and Educational Affairs (OSEA).

For the support of EUC the Managing Director furthermore deals with representatives for HR, finance, facilities and IT, which are organised at the university level, and interacts with the Faculty Director, Business Controller and Information Manager of ESSB.

EUC is governed by its Dean, who for that purpose chairs a Management Team consisting of the four heads of the academic departments, the Managing Director and a Student Member. The Heads of Department also cooperate closely with the Dean on the tasks associated with the role of an academic director.

The university colleges in the Netherlands interact on various levels and one example is the UCMD-meeting, where the managing directors share knowledge and best practices in an informal setting.

Tasks and REsponsibilities

  1. Co-steering EUC, together with the colleagues in the Management Team;

  2. Being an advisor to and sparring partner for the Dean and the four heads of the academic departments;

  3. Managing the Dean’s Office of EUC, together with the Head of OSEA, the Head of CASA, the head of MRAI and the Office Manager;

  4. Preparing, implementing and evaluating HR-policies and -procedures for EUC, while assuring that the managers at EUC are well-equipped in this regard;

  5. Preparing the annual budget of EUC, as well as administering and monitoring the implementation of the budget, in a way that strengthens the robustness of EUC (i.e. pro-active planning, scenarios and the ability to adjust course while underway when necessary);

  6. Assuring that both the educational building and the student residence stay fit for the goals of EUC;

  7. Proactively interacting with colleagues at the level of ESSB and the university in order to keep EUC on top of new relevant developments and to assure that new or adjusted policies take EUC into account.

Next to specific tasks and responsibilities all colleagues at EUC are expected to contribute towards overall tasks that facilitate our thriving academic community. Think of participating in extracurricular events, assisting with Open Days and academic events, being part of the In-house Emergence Service (BHV), etc.
