The Marketing, Recruitment & Admissions team supports all phases (international) students go through from being interested to enthusiastically following courses. In addition, the team supports individual researchers and groups in communicating their research findings and contribution to society.

Job description

Objective of the job

As the editor, you are responsible for publishing faculty information on the usual channels, which include the external and internal website, brochures, intranet and the E-magazine. You translate the faculty’s wishes into specific applications within the designated communication channels. As the editor, you are responsible for identifying and resolving content-related and technological problems. You build up a coherent picture of the goals and information needs of the various target groups.

 Further, you take care of the quality and presentation of the content. Based on your own analyses about user friendliness and findability, you adapt content to suit the various channels. You collect, write and edit content and you are responsible for managing metadata and measuring the use of all content.

 You act as a sparring partner for your colleagues within the marketing and communication team, the course coordinators within the two departments, and individual researchers. You work closely with the functional manager and take part in university consultative bodies and work groups. Your work contributes to the recruitment of students, positioning of researcher(s) and good information provision to students and employees in the faculty.

 Activities

The key activities of the Editor are:

  • Requesting, collating and structuring information.
  • Planning, prioritizing and managing website related projects
  • Writing & editing (English & Dutch) content and editing information supplied by others.
  • Presenting information in an accurate, topical, user-friendly and appealing way.
  • Monitoring and reporting the usage of the website, using tools such as Google Analytics
  • Monitoring user satisfaction and pro-actively taking action to address problems.
  • Contributing within the Marketing Department to the development of a web-based internet marketing strategy

Requirements

Our website and intranet are the main media for our information and marketing activities relating to both education and research. The growth in the number of (international) programmes has made the position of a professional editor more important than ever. In the short term, we are therefore looking for an experienced editor.

 We are looking for someone who enjoys achieving concrete, visible results and who has the social skills to get these results in collaboration with others. As editor, you are fluent in written and spoken English. You also have good and creative writing skills, a cross-media vision and up-to-date (technological) knowledge of web applications.

 As editor of our faculty, you must fulfil the following requirements:

  • At least a completed relevant higher professional education (hbo) programme in Digital Media, for example.
  • Preferably between three and six years’ experience in a similar position at the interface between web communication and technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written command of Dutch and English (level CEFR level C2).
  • Knowledge of and wide experience with CMS systems preferably Drupal.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with Google Analytics, SEO and AdWords.
  • Basic knowledge of at least one photo editing programme (e.g. Adobe Photoshop).
  • Familiarity with how university education programmes are designed and organised and affinity with our curriculum are a huge bonus.

 You have the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple requests simultaneously. You pride yourself on accuracy, integrity and critical thinking and are a true team player with strong interpersonal skills. Effective communication skills to handle routine enquiries and regular liaison with faculty members, senior staff and students, in English and Dutch.

Conditions of employment

Internationally-oriented and varied work within an enthusiastic team, with attractive fringe benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU). Your initial employment term will be 1 year but this may be extended and/or converted into a permanent contract if your performance proves satisfactory. Your remuneration will depend on the position, your specific knowledge and experience It will be calculated on the basis of full-time salary ranging between EUR 2709 and 4274 gross per year (salary scale  10 CAO NU ). Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and 41 annual leave days in case of a full work week. In addition, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we also offer partially paid parental leave. For international spouses we have set up a dual career programme. Moreover, EUR staff members are allowed to make use of the EUR facilities, including the Erasmus sports centre and the University Library.

Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB)

The Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences is home to a vast diversity of scientific disciplines: public administration, pedagogical sciences, psychology and sociology. In addition, the Erasmus University College, IHS, and two research institutes RISBO and DRIFT are linked to the faculty. This also reflects in the content of the (international) bachelor's and master's programs and in research.  Our activities are always focused on people and society. At the ESSB fundamental, internationally oriented research is of paramount importance. In addition, social research for professionals, policy makers, and the society is part of our research activities. ESSB offers a stimulating research environment where major national and international research grants are received. Appealing guest researchers and ambitious PhD candidates come along to conduct their research. The medior editor is part of the Marketing, Recruitment & Admissions team. The MRA team supports all phases a student goes through from being interested in some of our 36 (!) programmes to enthusiastically following courses. The MRA team facilitates the entire marketing, admission and selection process for the national as well as the international students.
