Job description

The admission office of the ISS consists of three people and functions as a team, everyone has more or less their own tasks and responsibilities but is also able to take over tasks of the other colleagues. In the quiet period of the admission office assistance to colleagues in the teaching support during their peak periods may occur. The admission office works in close collaboration with the communication and marketing department to attune contacts with prospective students.

A role will be to administer the PhD admission procedure, to provide guidance to prospective PhD researchers and to offer support during the application procedure.

Tasks and responsibilities of the admission office

  • Processing applications from students with a non-Dutch diploma and determining their admissibility for the MA and the PhD programme;

  • Handling requests from prospective students/PhD researchers for information;

  • Advising students/PhD researchers about study options and the admission criteria;

  • Answering emails and telephone calls from prospective students/PhD researchers and applicants;
  • Guiding prospective students/PhD researchers in their route from applicant to registered student/PhD researcher;

  • Facilitating students in finding appropriate housing in The Hague;

  • Support the colleagues in the department with various activities; e.g. organizing the arrival weekend and its activities;

  • Contact with external partners, such as the IND, Municipality and GGD;

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or HBO degree;
  • At least one year of relevant experience, preferably within an (international) educational environment;
  • Your work is accurate and structured, and you have a keen eye for procedures and clear communication;
  • Very good communication skills in both Dutch and English (C1 level);
  • Proactive and independent working style;
  • Empathic and enthusiastic;
  • Affinity with communication and marketing;
  • Skills and experience in the use of Word, Excel and databases (pref. Osiris);
  • Flexible;
  • Interested in working in an international environment.

Conditions of employment

The position as Admission Officer will be based at ISS in The Hague. The start date is as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be offered a part-time, one year contract directly with ISS.  The contract can be extended in case of a positive assessment of applicant and the position itself. In accordance with the conditions applied at the Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO NU) of Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and will range from € 2.261 – € 3.052 gross per month (scale 7) in case of fulltime employment. In addition, ISS pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3%.

The International Institute of Social Studies (ISS)

The International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is a leading academic centre for international development studies in The Hague and is part of the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). It is a post-graduate institute of policy-oriented critical social science, founded in 1952. The institute offers a PhD in Development Studies, a 15.5-month MA in Development studies with five Majors, and several post-graduate Diploma courses.
