As a PhD/Junior Lecturer you will have both research (50%) and teaching (50%) duties for a 6-year period. For your research duties, you will work on a PhD project under the supervision of Dr G. Braam, Dr D. Reimsbach and Prof. J. Knoben. The PhD project focuses on the adoption and diffusion of non-financial reporting practices, more specifically climate reporting. The project aims to advance our understanding of conditions that facilitate or inhibit environmentally responsible business conduct by examining how corporate climate reporting can contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and the economic effects associated with it. A more detailed project description is available upon request from Dr G. Braam (g.braam@fm.ru.nl). On the basis of this project description you will be expected to develop a more elaborate research proposal in this area in the first year of your appointment. This proposal will have to be approved by the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Nijmegen School of Management.

Your teaching responsibilities include giving tutorials/lectures in the Bachelor’s degree programmes offered by the Department of Economics and Business Economics, with a focus on Business Economics in general, and accounting and corporate finance in particular. Whilst holding this position, you will be given the opportunity to obtain your university teaching qualification.

• you have a Master’s degree in a relevant field of Economics and -Business Economics or equivalent;
• you have good research skills evidenced by good grades for research methods and statistics courses;
• you have excellent writing skills, as evidenced by a writing sample, such as a chapter from your Master’s thesis or a (forthcoming or published) article or presented conference paper;
• you are able to develop a research proposal in the area of the adoption and diffusion of non-financial reporting practices;
• you are able to teach in English; Dutch teaching skills are an advantage;
• you are enthusiastic and highly motivated.

• employment: 1.0 FTE
• a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,274 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 10)
• in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus
• duration of the contract: 6 years
• you will be classified as a Teacher, Level 4 (Docent, niveau 4) (primary appointment) and as a Researcher, Level 4 (Onderzoeker, niveau 4) (secondary appointment) in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO)

Nijmegen School of Management
The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations in both the public and private domains. There are seven disciplines within the NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach where possible. Altogether, the NSM employs 265 FTEs, 75% of whom are academics.
 
Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes are offered in the seven focus areas, which are organised in the NSM’s educational institute. The educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. The vacancy is within the Chair Group of Business Economics. The Department of Economics and Business Economics has three additional Chairs: Economic Theory and Policy, International Economics, and Finance. The department is responsible for the development and quality of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Economics, as well as for the courses in Economics in the other educational programmes of the Nijmegen School of Management. What sets the Nijmegen curriculum in Economics apart is that it is characterised by a multidisciplinary approach whereby, in addition to the economics discipline, inspiration is sought from other areas.
