Job description

Building Services play an important role in fostering comfort and productivity of people living and working in buildings, and in avoiding building related health effects. Current technological and social developments present business challenges transcending this sector and require a strongly cross- and interdisciplinary as well as innovative approach. The research and education envisioned by this Building Services Innovation (BSI) chair is aimed at opportunities, potential added values and challenges around contributions of various disciplines like architecture, mechanical and electrical engineering, sanitation, policy and management, and ICT. How can new technologies like BIM and IoT contribute in generating added value and/or respond to changing societal questions, like energy transition and storage? The needed scientific research requires a transcending vision on the building industry as a whole. Bringing all these parties together to define, finance and execute the communal research, requires the level of an academic chair, particularly because of the complex interdisciplinary character as well as the societal relevance. The research is performed for and with companies from the industry sector and will contribute to the scientific lines of research regarding climate change, mitigation and adaption. The BSI-chair is expected to ‘institutionalise’ itself through acquisition of projects and funding, combining various domains of TU Delft in Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Design Engineering and Civil Engineering as well as Policy and Management. The chair is meant to generate and boost cooperation between practice and academy. The chair will be part of the section Environmental and Computational Design within the department of Architectural Engineering and Technology, at the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment.
