Are you passionate about global health education? Do you have experience in graduate and postgraduate teaching in an international environment? Are you interested in the complexity of global health challenges and how to address them for better health for all?

As the successful candidate for this position as Global Health Teaching Fellow, you will be contributing to and further developing our global health educational portfolio at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Healthcare, University Medical Center Utrecht. The greatest part of your role in this part-time position will be to focus on two University College Utrecht courses: ‘Global Health in the context of the SDGs’ and the new ‘Global Health Practice’ course. This position is initially part-time (20h/wk) for two years, with the opportunity to expand to accommodate new education initiatives.

Requirements

As the ideal candidate for this position, you possess a background in paramedical/medical or health sciences, as well as a BKO or SKO teaching qualification (or the willingness to obtain this in your first year of appointment). You are experienced in global health education, including course coordination and new course development, and skilled in small-scale interactive teaching. You have a demonstrable track record of working in a low/middle-income setting with respect to global health or tropical medicine. You thrive in an international, multidisciplinary environment, possess excellent didactic skills, can work well independently, and are capable of communicating effectively. You have excellent written and verbal English skills.

 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: temporary appointment for 2 years, starting with 1 year from July 2019 onwards.

For this 50-60% post, the maximum salary will be € 4.361,- depending on education and qualifications. This will be a temporary appointment for 2 years, starting with 1 year.

Global Health at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care

Global Health at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, UMC Utrecht aims to conduct high-impact clinical epidemiological and public health research that generates evidence contributing to improved individual and public health, and to educate new generations of researchers and health care professionals worldwide. Our global health research activities are concentrated in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. We collaborate with a range of local and international partners on the basis of our expertise in clinical epidemiology and public health in the areas of circulatory health, cancer, infectious disease, maternal and child health, as well as environmental health. We draw upon the epidemiological expertise at the Julius Center to support our educational activities, and over the years we have added courses and capacity building in global health, both in Utrecht and for a global audience through the support of the e-learning platform Elevate Health. We offer courses about Global Health at University College Utrecht (Bachelor-level), to medical students at the University Medical Center Utrecht (BSc/MSc), and Master of Epidemiology students at Utrecht University.
