Post-doc Fulltime at the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD). Starting date: 1 September 2017 (40 hours per week)

Job description

The Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) is seeking a Post-doc scientist. The Departments of Global Health-AIGHD and Medical Microbiology of the Academic Medical Center (AMC) closely collaborate in a research program on the zoonotic potential of Streptococcus suis, a orcine bacterial pathogen which can cause severe invasive infections in humans. In addition, the departments collaborate in research on diagnostics and (zoonotic) transmission of antimicrobial resistant bacteria and resistance determinants. As part of two recently EU-funded international consortia, a postdoc position has become available. The research will initially focus on regulatory and structural determinants of zoonotic potential of S. suis and will include mutational analysis, whole genome sequencing, and host cell-pathogen interaction studies. Opportunities will exist to engage in the ongoing research on antimicrobial resistance. A PhD student will join the team.

Main duties/responsibilities

  • To initiate and perform laboratory based studies related to the subjects mentioned above, in collaboration with other researchers in the consortium.
  • To supervise a PhD student during the daily research activities.
  • To supervise biomedical research students who may join the research program.
  • To write and publish manuscripts related to the research.
