The department of Medical ethics and anthropology of science are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for an ambitious project with the aim to 1) analyze when and how integrity issues are addressed in different research practices. We do this by analyzing how issues of integrity take shape in everyday routines of doing scientific work and compare these between and within 5 different disciplines. The second aim is 2) to support the development of research practices that safeguard research integrity, by comparing the concerns and solutions within the different disciplines.
The project addresses these questions by using methods of science studies and empirical ethics. The postdoc will engage in participant observation and interviews to detect every day issues where 'good' science’ is at stake. The results will feed into focus-groups to discuss strategies for safeguarding research integrity.
The project is financed by ZONMW - Bevorderen van Verantwoorde Onderzoekspraktijken/ Stimulation of Responsible Research Practices.
Project leaders are prof dr Jeannette Pols and prof dr Amade M’charek.
Eligible candidates should have a Masters in Science & technology Studies, Anthropology or philosophy of science, or another relevant discipline. Experience with qualitative research is expected, with a completed PhD in a relevant field. Excellent oral and written skills in both English are expected.
We offer a position for 28.8 hours per week (0.8 FTE) for a total of 3 years for a post-doctoral researcher. Start of the project is September 1st 2017. The salary is in accordance with CAO-UMC with a maximum of (€4.152,00 gross monthly salary) and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. In addition, payment includes a holiday allowance of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8,3% of the gross annual salary. The applicant will be employed by AMC Medical Research BV. Job interviews will be held on June 26 and 27 2017.
The AMC is more than just a hospital. It is a world in which patient care, research and education are integrated, and in which people are always central. It is an academic world full of possibilities for talented individuals that are looking for a place where they can excel. Thinking big, daring to dream, cooperating internationally. And never letting yourself be put off by ‘It’s not possible’ or ’It won’t work anyway’. That is the AMC mentality.
The research will take place at the section of medical ethics, in collaboration with the anthropology department from the University of Amsterdam.
