Join our research and improve the future treatment of esophageal cancer.

Job description

We are offering a position at the Laboratory for Experimental Oncology (LEXOR) in collaboration with the Department of Medical Oncology at the Academic Medical Center Amsterdam. Recent work from our group has established that therapeutic pressure results in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in esophageal cancer, and that this drives resistance to therapy. Given that therapy resistance is an enormous hurdle to the effective treatment of esophageal cancer, this project offers an opportunity to improve outcome of this devastating malignancy.

The PhD candidate will elucidate the mechanisms that drive this resistance and develop markers that predict its occurrence in patients. Our group has established a unique set of patient-derived models and archived material that will allow cutting-edge experimental work. This will include in vitro and in vivo tumor experiments, bioinformatics, and the analysis of patient material including blood and tissue samples and clinical data.
