Job description

A major source of information for health data science are the unstructured data that are contained in free text, e.g., clinicians’ notes, annotations of medical images and primary care visit records. In our group, we process, study and use these data for constructing clinical prediction models. These prediction models are used to support clinicians in performing diagnoses and prognoses.

Your position is on the ADELE research project, supported by the Amsterdam Public Health research school and the AMC departments of Medical Informatics and General Practice. The project’s goal is to process free text in primary care visit records in order to create oncological prediction models for ovarian cancer and lung cancer. This first analysis is meant as a preparation for a much bigger project in future.

You will be working in a research team that uses combinations of (deep) machine learning and statistics to process free text in medical documents to create prediction models. The team consists of primary care clinicians and medical data scientists.

In the team, you will be responsible for developing deep learning models to process free text and to further develop clinical prediction models with a combination of (deep) machine learning and statistics.

And never letting yourself be put off by ‘It’s not possible’ or ’It won’t work anyway’. That is the AMC mentality.
