Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the context of a 3-year project on Privacy Management in Smart Cities, starting October 2017 or as soon as possible. The project aims to investigate how cities and citizens manage the tension between safeguarding privacy versus expectations of higher efficiency, better living conditions and improved safety. The position is located in the Center of Excellence in Public Safety Management (CESAM).

We are searching for candidates with a strong academic background as well as experience in conducting research in close collaboration with practitioners. The successful candidate will be expected to take on the research and management aspects of the project, including the scientific and daily guidance of a PhD student. The ideal candidate should have a PhD in surveillance studies, psychology, sociology, politics or related fields. Excellent Dutch and English skills (oral and written) are essential, as the project requires close coordination with the City in Rotterdam, other Dutch organizations and citizens. The project work is envisioned to cover 0.6 fte (i.e., 3 days a week). Possibilities exist to increase the amount of days per week through teaching at the faculty and/or acquisition of grants. Participation in executive teaching is possible depending on the candidate’s interests and qualifications.

Fixed-term contract: 3 Years.

Conditions of employment

The gross monthly salary, depending on your education and experience, is between € 3,475, - and € 4,757, - (scale 11 of the CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten (CAO NU)) for full-time employment (1.0 FTE is 38 hours per week).

The salary includes several secondary benefits (such as a pension plan that is partially funded by the university, a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% per year. Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants. Headhunter support for dual career couples is possible through the faculty.
