- Teach a wide range of classes in the BA program GLTC and the MA program Classics;
- Supervise BA and MA theses;
- Perform administrative tasks;
- Take an active part in the various activities of LUCAS;
- Take an active part in the Dutch national research school of classics, OIKOS (incl. eventually smaller teaching tasks).
- PhD in Classics, preferably Latin literature, of high quality;
- Teaching experience at University level (ideally demonstrated by evaluations of previous courses);
- Enthusiasm for teaching and supervising students;
- Fluency in Dutch (as the BA teaching is in Dutch) and English (as the MA teaching is in English);
- Team player.
The Universiteit Leiden offers a five year position for a lecturer in Latin Language and Literature to replace dr. Christoph Pieper during his VIDI-research project. The job is primarily a teaching job on BA and MA level, but the successful candidate will also be asked to perform some administrative tasks (like membership of committees). We expect the candidate to continue her/his research and to contribute to activities of the Dutch research school of classics, OIKOS.
The successful applicant will be appointed according to the terms of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (cao Nederlandse Universiteiten), from 15 January 2017 until 31 December 2021.
The gross monthly salary will range, depending on qualifications and experience, between € 3,427.- and € 4,691.- based on a full-time appointment according to salary scale 11.
An appointment at Leiden University includes a contributory pension scheme and other benefits such as an annual holiday premium of 8% and an end-of-year premium of 8.3%. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax concession.
