Faculty of Humanities, Leiden Institute for Area Studies is looking for a part-time Lecturer Arabic Literature and Culture (teaching replacement) (0.6 FTE).

Job description

  • Teaching BA- and MA-level courses (first and second semester) related to Arabic literature and Arabic studies;
  • Teaching second year BA-level elective in the International Studies program, The Hague, preferably in the field of literary cultures of the Middle East and North Africa;
  • Supervising BA and MA theses in Arabic Studies;
  • Supervising BA theses in the International Studies program, The Hague;
  • Contributing to the development of the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate curriculum in Arabic Studies.

Requirements

  • A doctorate in Arabic Studies with a focus on literature; advanced PhD candidates can also be considered;
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and supervising theses;
  • Proficiency in English;
  • Obtainment of University Teaching Qualification during the course of the appointment, if the candidate is not already in possession of the Qualification.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 3 years.

We offer a fixed-term post from February 2018 through December 2021, for 22.8 hours per week. Salary range, depending on education and work experience, from €2,588 to €4,757 gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (pay scale 10 or 11 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
