The section Methodology and Statistics of the institute Psychology of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences is looking for a Computer Scientist (or Programmer) Methodology and Statistics (1.0 FTE).

Job description

Your tasks are to a large extent part of the research activities of Methodology and Statistics for Psychology and you will contribute to the development of statistical methods for the Behavioural Sciences. You main tasks involve:

  • improving the performance of simulation studies, including parallel computing, and advising which platforms and servers to use;
  • improving algorithms and code of statistical methods;
  • (assistance in) creating Shiny applications and R packages. You will investigate autonomously whether R packages can be speeded up by combining R code with third generation program languages;

You will contribute actively to the teaching program of the Methodology and Statistics by maintaining, generating (SPSS) tests and exams, and creating e-learning material;

Requirements

  • You have completed with excellent grades a master related to computer science (statistics, computer science, data science, etc.);
  • You are able to program in R and in a third generation language (e.g., JAVA or C++). Additional programming skills (e.g., in MATLAB or Python) are appreciated;
  • You have experience in using statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, or STATA;
  • You are proficient in LaTeX;
  • You have excellent writing and communication skills;
  • You are able to work independently;
  • Both Dutch and English language proficiency (or the intention to obtain these) is required.

Conditions of employment

We offer a full-time one year term position, with the possibility of renewal based on need, funding and performance. Salary range from €2,588 to €4,085 gross per month (pay scale 10, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
