Job description

The position

As Statistical Analyst or Data Analyst, you will be part of an international collaborative project investigating factors associated with the development of type 2 diabetes and diabetes-related complications of eyes, kidneys and the cardiovascular system. Your work will involve carrying out and developing statistical data analyses. In addition, you will be responsible for data management, data harmonization and data sharing with our collaborators in Europe and the US.

The project

The project uses data from the Hoorn Diabetes Care system cohort (DCS), a prospective cohort of people with type 2 diabetes for whom annual data is available, including glycaemia, lipids and anthropometric markers. The data is collected in collaboration with our partners at VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam. Data of other cohorts of people with type 2 diabetes are available through international collaboration. In addition to longitudinal clinical data in DCS from over 5000 people with type 2 diabetes, we have or are collecting other data types such as genomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics.

Department

Cell and Chemical Biology

The LUMC is a center for medical innovation that aims to improve patient care through leading international research. So as to also provide our patients with a safe and friendly environment, we need doctors, medical care specialists, support staff and academic researchers.

Within the Department of Cell and Chemical Biology (previously Molecular Cell Biology), the diabetes research group works with partners in the Netherlands and abroad to investigate factors in blood that can predict whether a person with type 2 diabetes is at risk of developing complications with the eyes, kidneys and blood vessels. Although there are more than one million people in the Netherlands with type 2 diabetes, not all suffer from diabetic complications. The results of the research will enable extra care to be provided to those people with the highest risk of developing complications. This research project using the Hoorn DCS is part of a European/American collaboration (www.type2diabetesgenetics.org).
