Job description

The Netherlands Heart Institute fosters excellent cardiovascular research on national and international level. We conduct basic science as well as clinical research. We aim to promote cooperation between university medical centres in the Netherlands and between scientists and the private sector. The Netherlands Heart Institute is looking for a: Post-doc - Antiarrhythmic Gene Therapy (1,0 FTE).

Host Department:

The departments of Medical Biology and Experimental Cardiology, Academic Medical Center Amsterdam offer a senior postdoc position. This 3-year position is funded by a ZonMw Game Changer grant. The project aims to develop antiarrhythmic gene therapy for post-myocardial infarction arrhythmias (in collaboration with the Donders Institute, Radboud University Nijmegen, Arthrogen, Cart-tech, and Medtronic).

Requirements

Needed skills:

Candidates should have a PhD in a life science subject, including molecular biology (preferably gene therapy using Adeno Associated Viral Vectors) and/or cardiac electrophysiology, an excellent track record of publications and a strong scientific curiosity. Excellent spoken and written English skills are required. We seek a highly motivated scientist who enjoys an interdisciplinary environment. You are able to work independently but also as part of a team, and need good communication skills.

Conditions of employment

Position and location:

We offer a position for 1-year (36 hours working week), which will be extended for another 2 years when functioning appropriately. As post-doc you will work on optimizing various gene therapy-based strategies, including construct engineering, vector production, and in vivo large animal testing. In this position you will supervise at least one technician who will work with you towards the common goal of improving in vivo antiarrhythmic performance. You are expected to design your own experiments, conceptualize therapeutic improvements, and interact with associated gene and cell therapy investigators to maximize scientific and therapeutic outcomes. Location will be AMC in Amsterdam.

Salary

The salary for a full-time appointment for a starting postdoc will be scale 10, maximum €4111,=. Payand benefit package according to the collective labour agreement of the university medical centers in the Netherlands.
