The Post-Doc research position will focus on the strategic and design decisions at the macro-level of Open Education. The macro-level is related to the organisational embedding of Open Education activities and of the design of Open Education solutions. The PostDoc/Assistant Professor will analyse and evaluate the current state-of-the-art and develop a framework and related instruments for decision making on the Open Education strategy, design and implementation by Open Education providers in close cooperation with the other researchers in the research cluster on open education and innovation: The overall objective is the development and evaluation of a comprehensive and applicable framework approach for school education, Higher Education and vocational education that is used and tested in practice for organizational development and educational innovation and can be transferred to enterprise development and lifelong learning.

The PostDoc/Assistant Professor will facilitate the strategy and design of Open Education solutions (MOOCs and online communities) and their testing, data collection and evaluation within several European research projects. It is expected that the candidate will be able to take an integrative and multi-disciplinary perspective and that s/he will pro-actively develop ideas for a common framework and data analysis as well as publications across several European research projects. It is expected that the Post-Doc/Assistant Professor is actively involved in the management of these research projects.

The candidate will be passionate about Open Education and will strive for developing the project in a self-organized manner supported by the other principal investigators and leading professor. S/he will have already a publication record in Open Education or related domains. Output of the project will be submitted to high-impact scientific journals and intermediate results will be presented in international, peer-reviewed conferences. The candidate will play an active/leading role in dissemination and knowledge utilization activities in the research projects and s/he will collaborate with other researchers in the research cluster on open education and innovation.

Functie-eisen

  • PhD degree in a field relevant to Open Education and the research topic (e.g., educational sciences, learning sciences, psychology, social sciences, management science, economics)
  • Publication record in open education or a related domain (technology-enhanced learning, learning sciences, educational psychology, organisational learning, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge in (multivariate) statistics
  • Open attitude, strong willingness to develop towards a leadership role
  • Positive, people-oriented and energetic attitude
  • Analytical, creative and innovative approach to solving problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, willingness to acquire sufficient proficiency in Dutch

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

The maximum salary for a permanent and full-time position is € 4.551,= gross per month (salary scale 11) in accordance with VSNU standards and depending upon your qualifications and experience.

The faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences is strong at education and research. The Welten Institute is a department of the faculty which plays an important role in research into the innovation of education and professionalization of teachers, both nationally and internationally. The research programme of psychology focuses on The interaction between implicit and explicit strategies for behaviour.
The faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences provides scientific bachelor and master programmes Psychology and a scientific master programme Educational Sciences. The master programme Psychology concentrates on four fields of psychology: Labour and organizational psychology, Health psychology, Clinical psychology and Lifespan psychology.
On the list of priorities is the further development of a competency-focused curriculum in which widely (but not only) an electronic learning environment is used. The master Educational Sciences focuses also on the professionalization and embedding of learning technologies.
In the National Student Survey 2014 the bachelor and master Psychology reached first places in their studies and the master Educational Sciences received a high satisfaction score.

Welten Institute – Research Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology
The mission of the Welten Institute is to improve learning and knowledge building at work, at school, at home and on the move by combining state-of-the-art knowledge in the Learning Sciences with the innovative power of new Information and Communication Technologies. New technologies and approaches to learning and innovation are extensively tested in our laboratories and in practice. The core activities of the Welten Institute are research, innovation, education and training. The open positions will be assigned to the Technology-Enhanced Learning Innovations (TELI) group at the Welten Institute. The TELI group has a special focus on electronic learning environments, particularly linked with mobile, ambient, and social media and combines expertise in the areas of pedagogical scenarios for learning and learning support, interoperability, learning management systems, virtual learning environments, social media mash-ups (personal learning environments), social and situational awareness, usability, as well as expertise related to open education, content authoring, content management, workplace learning, and lifelong learning at large.

The research projects
The Welten Institute of the Open University of the Netherlands is participating in many research projects: The research cluster on open education and innovation has received several new European research projects under the management and leadership of dr. Christian M. Stracke. The projects are dealing with different topics (inclusive education, female entrepreneurship, water management, science education) and target groups (school, vocational and Higher education) and the research cluster on open education and innovation is responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of different Open Education solutions including MOOCs.
