The postdoc's main task will be carrying out the Dutch part of the research programme 'Partner relationships, residential relocations and housing in the life course'. This programme was designed to study the connections between partner relationships (including both living-apart-together and co-residential partnerships), residential relocations and housing in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK, using large survey data bases and quantitative methods. It is funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research NWO, the German Research Foundation DFG and the British Economic and Social Research Council. Principal investigators are professors Clara H. Mulder from the University of Groningen, Michael Wagner from the University of Cologne, and Hill Kulu from the University of Liverpool. The research team will further consist of two or three fellow researchers: a postdoc to be hired in Liverpool and a postdoc or two PhD candidates in Cologne. The postdoc will collaborate closely with the whole research team. The research in Groningen fits in the faculty research theme Towards Wellbeing, Innovation and Spatial Transformation (tWIST). The Postdoc will invest 90% of his/her time in research and organizational tasks for the research programme, and another 10% in teaching. The position is fulltime for three years, under the condition of a positive performance appraisal after one year.

Functie-eisen

- PhD in Demography, Sociology, Human Geography or Economics
- publications in international peer-reviewed academic journals in the field of quantitative research on themes related to housing, family and/or residential relocations
- excellent skills in quantitative research using large survey databases
- proven ability to collaborate in a research team and to take the lead in organizing collaborative work
- willingness to teach in the bachelor Human Geography and Planning and the master Population Studies; preferably some teaching experience
- fluent in English; preferably mastering some Dutch or willing to learn Dutch.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

The University of Groningen offers a salary that will start between € 3,037 (scale 10, step5 Dutch Universities) gross per month and the maximum of € 3,491 (scale 11, step 2) gross per month based on the experience of the candidate. The salary will be based on the salary scale for Researchers at Dutch universities and in accordance with the collective agreement regulating employment conditions at Dutch universities. The fulltime appointment is temporary for a specified period of three years. After one year there will be a formal performance appraisal, if the appraisal is positive the appointment will be extended for the next two years.

Starting date: no later than 1 July 2014 owing to NWO requirements.

The (Skype) interviews for this position are scheduled for the 23rd of April 2014.
