Job description

The faculty offers one position in the Postdoc Programme in Law, where excellent researchers who are still in the beginning of their academic career are appointed to a temporary postdoc position. The programme offers a two-year appointment. The research tasks will be specified to suit the candidate’s interests and expertise and will be conducted in one of the existing research programmes of the law faculty. In the first year, the focus will be on bolstering the international dimension of their CV, and at the end of the first year/start of the second year they will submit an application within the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme (Vernieuwingsimpuls) or a similar programme. To this end, they will take advantage of the training facilities provided by the University of Groningen and will receive support from the Faculty’s funding officer. To enhance their CV, researchers will be given some light teaching duties (a maximum of 10 to 15%); this is primarily aimed at teaching within the master’s programme (1 master’s course unit).

Requirements

This appointment requires the following minimum qualifications:
• excellent research skills, as evidenced by a PhD thesis (preferably with a cum laude distinction) in Law and other high-quality (international) publications; the ideal candidate belongs to the top 15% of his/her peer group
• excellent proficiency in English (both written and spoken)
• strong communication and organizational skills.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 24 months.

The University of Groningen offers depending on qualifications and experience a minimum salary of € 3,111 and a maximum salary of € 4,084 (scale 10 Dutch Universities) gross a month on a full-time basis (Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities). The appointment will be temporary, for a maximum of two years and with a minimum appointment of 0.8 fte.

Starting date: The starting date will depend on the date of the PhD ceremony and on any employment-related consequences.
