Job description

In order to further strengthen our Centres of Expertise (and therefore FEB’s) positioning and visibility we are looking for a Communications Officer. The ideal candidate is someone who has experience in the field of external communications and marketing. The officer will focus mainly on external stakeholders, such as businesses and gouvernmental organisations. The Faculty’s communications & marketing plan and the Centres' business plans give an important framework for this role. The tasks mainly focus on developing and maintaining the communications calendar of the Centres, writing news and information, new channels, project management, events, interviews and videos. The officer will also work on and develop policy plans that strengthen the reputation and positioning of the Centres. Other responsibilities include leading or participating in communication and marketing projects and connecting with stakeholders within and outside FEB (e.g. staff, researchers, programme directors, departmental heads, board members, students and the Central Communications Office of the University). The officer will report to the Head of MIC (also Head of ECS).

Requirements

We are looking for a new colleague, a real team player. The new colleague will mainly focus on external communications and marketing. The following skills, abilities and qualifications are required:
- university level, Dutch HBO or bachelor’s degree; preferably trained in the field of communications and/or marketing
- independent, proactive and creative
- affinity with the area of economics, business
- excellent proficiency in English and Dutch language
- capable of creating content, based on research results for different formats, e.g. blog, video, website content, events
- capable of creating visibility for the Centres via a variety of (social) channels (internal, external)
- flexible and client oriented
- good team worker, with a results oriented and creative attitude and excellent communication (including writing) and collaboration skills (including intercultural skills)
- demonstrable experience in project work (events, design, video productions)
- demonstrable communication experience (website, intranet, campaigns, press releases, videos, interviews, key messages, new media).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

The University of Groningen offers, depending on qualifications and experience, a gross monthly salary will be between € 2,465 and € 3,722 (salary scale 8/9 Dutch Universities) based on a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees.
The initial appointment is for one year. An extension depends on the performance of the candidate.

MIC has around 20 members of staff and provides support in such areas as internationalisation, marketing and recruitment, internal and external communication, video production, event organisation and research communication. The Department is part of Education and Communication Services (ECS), which also includes the Exchange Office, the Student Administration Office, Study Advice and Educational Quality.

The Centres of Expertise of FEB link academic expertise to questions from different areas, such as energy, HR, marketing and finance. Experienced researchers and students work closely with various organisations to conduct tailor-made research, driven by demand from society and practitioners. Our applied research ties in with the latest developments and issues in society, and focuses on translating fundamental knowledge into practice both now and in the future.
