Job description

The Assistant Professor (1.0 fte) will contribute to the teaching innovation initiative at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. With regard to teaching, the Assistant Professor will play a pivotal role in coordinating and supporting the professional learning communities in the departments of Sociology, Psychology, and Educational Sciences. The Assistant Professor can also develop own professional learning communities, for instance in the field of ‘Student as Partners’, where students will be directly involved in the development of courses. The assistant professor’s research, among others into the professional learning communities, will be part of the research programme ‘Effectiveness of Higher Education’.

Requirements

- a PhD degree in the Social and Behavioural Sciences
- proven ability to collaborate in a teaching or research team and to take the lead in organizing collaborative work
- experience or affinity with teacher professionalization in Higher Education
- experience with research in Higher Education
- in possession of the University Teaching Qualification (or willingness to obtain it within the first two years of employment)
- publications in international peer-reviewed academic journals in the field of higher
Education
-the ability to communicate orally and in written form in English (command of English C1 level) and command of Dutch (or willingness and ability to learn Dutch in a short period).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 48 months.

The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience.
For candidates at the Assistant Professor level the salary for a full-time position ranges from a minimum of € 3,475 (salary scale 11 Dutch Universities) to a maximum of € 5,405 (salary scale 12) gross per month. The gross salary is excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
The appointment will be for a period of four years. Before the end of the first year there will be an evaluation. After a positive performance evaluation, the position will be extended to four years full time.

An employment of a minimum of 0.8 fte is possible.

Starting date: as soon as possible.
