Job description

SOM, the graduate school and research institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business has available a PhD position Coordination and collaboration to handle disruptions (1.0 FTE).

In this PhD project, the goal is to identify the structures and decision-making processes that facilitate coordination and collaboration between teams and organizations to handle disruptions (e.g., machine breakdowns, infrastructure problems). Building on insights from organizational behaviour and organizational theory, we will examine how management structures and decision-making processes can be adapted to meet the requirements of specific situations. We subdivide this project into two parts that are closely interrelated. In the first part the focus is on the management of multi-team and multi-organizational coordination and collaboration mechanisms using information from real-life cases. The second part of the project focuses on how we can change the management structures used to tune the decision-making and coordination processes of the teams and organizations involved using an intervention study. The position will be part of the SOM research programme on Organizational Behaviour (see https://www.rug.nl/research/hrm-ob/) and is financed by a grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and NGInfra. The position offers the unique opportunity to work with a team of top scholars on a scientifically important and practically relevant problem.
