Functiebeschrijving

‘Reproducing Europe: Migrant Parenting and Contested Citizenship’ is a five-year research project financed by the European Research Council (2015-2020) and led by Dr Anouk de Koning. The project examines how everyday citizenship is debated, produced and negotiated in a Europe where migrants are increasingly seen as a burden or threat. It examines these negotiations of everyday citizenship through a study of debates, interventions and practices related to migrant parenting in Paris, Milan and Amsterdam. The experiences of Egyptian migrant parents – a relatively new North African and (partly) Muslim migrant group – serve as its vantage point.

The research will be carried out by a project team consisting of six researchers who will work in these three cities. It relies on close cooperation between the various researchers. The team will work together to further elaborate and refine the research approach and the various subprojects and will also co-author a number of publications. As a Postdoc Researcher you will be responsible for one of the subprojects. You will be located either in Paris or in Milan, where you will examine how citizenship is imagined and negotiated in various institutional settings involved with migrant parenting, for instance in public health authorities, schools or social work agencies. These projects entail policy or institutional ethnographies, combining discourse analysis and ethnographic research. Each postdoctoral researcher will work closely with, and help mentor, the PhD researcher who will be conducting research in the same city.

Your tasks will be to conduct ethnographic field research and to publish a minimum of four peer-reviewed articles, of which at least two will be co-authored with other team members. You will participate in and help organize conferences, workshops, seminars and other scholarly activities. You will also assist in mentoring PhD researchers.Click here for more information about the project.
