Job description

As Professor of Civil Law, in particular its European law aspects, you teach (in English) European private law (EU law). You also teach civil law in the Bachelor’s or Master’s programme.

You conduct, initiate and supervise research into business-oriented and other European private law (EU law) and keep track of international developments.

As a full professor, you supervise PhD candidates and you assist in generating government and third-party (European) research funds. You help enhance the international profiles of the Business and Law Research Centre (OO&R) and the faculty. Within your scope of responsibilities, you manage the staff members in an inspiring way. In addition, you will be expected to perform board work. You will take an active part in the necessary committee work within the Civil Law section, the OO&R and the faculty and you will be prepared and able to assume administrative responsibility.Please click here for a more detailed job profile.

Requirements

- you are a legal academic with a PhD, with in-depth knowledge and excellent expertise in the field of European law and you have an excellent knowledge of the patrimonial law applicable in the Netherlands and in the other major EU Member States;
- you have an extensive academic interest and a broad methodical orientation;
- you have a network of valuable contacts in academia and legal practice, both nationally and internationally
- you are making a name for yourself in the broader academic field of Civil Law, n particular its European law aspects, in both a national and an international context;
- you enjoy collaborating and excel at it;
- you have a proven interest in collaborating on law research projects;
- you master the English language on the level of a proficient user (CERF level C);
- you are willing to master the Dutch language for teaching purposes.

Conditions of employment

- you will be classified as a Professor (Hoogleraar) Level 2 in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO).

The teaching and research remit 'Civil Law, in particular its European law aspects' falls under the Civil Law section of Radboud University Nijmegen's Faculty of Law. Education and research are the faculty's core activities. The Faculty of Law’s academic education is geared to training all-around lawyers, as well as to the post-academic education of lawyers. A hallmark of the faculty’s cutting-edge academic research is its collaboration with the legal professional practice.

Research by staff members is carried out under the flag of the Business and Law Research Centre (OO&R).

The OO&R is a collaboration between the faculty and a number of leading law firms and multinational enterprises, which conducts research in the field of law that is of significance for enterprises. As a result of the structural blend between academia and practice, research results are obtained that are not only of importance to jurisprudence but also to legal practice.

The Civil Law section consists of approximately 50 staff members.
