Job description

As a PhD candidate you will work towards a dissertation in the field of pathological speech. You will write at least three papers on the basis of this research for high-impact international journals. This research will be embedded in the EU-funded European Training Network (ETN) TAPAS: ’Training network on Automatic processing of PAthological Speech’. Participation in this network includes working within at least one other country in the network for a period of 3-6 months over the duration of the contract.
You will participate in the project: ESR8 - ’Developing valid measures of pathological speech intelligibility: human ratings and automatic scores’. Your research will be embedded in the Centre for Language Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Radboud University and you will report to Associate Professor Helmer Strik.More details about the vacancy.

Requirements

You should have, or shortly expect to obtain, a Research Master’s degree or an equivalent high-quality scientific degree in a relevant area, such as linguistics, cognitive neurosciences, or artificial intelligence.
You should have an excellent written and spoken command of English, and preferably expertise on pathological speech, automatic speech processing, and programming. Further, you should be able to quickly learn new research methods and data analysis methods.
Applications must be in line with eligibility requirements that come with EU ETN/ITN projects (such as that applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 3-year period immediately prior to the start date; and that at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, applicants must be in the first four years of their research careers).

Conditions of employment

you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 1.5 years
- you will be classified as a PhD candidate in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO)
the gross starting salary amounts to €2,222 per month, and will increase to €2,709 in the third year (P scale)
Starting date: sometime in 2018, preferably as soon as possible.
