Job description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, invites applications for the position of a Professorship (W3) for "Geotechnics: Foundation Engineering and Soil Mechanics" to start as soon as possible.

The candidate is expected to establish a sustainable research program, be capable to produce and publish original research, be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students and engage in institutional and professional service. The focus of research should be on fundamental research in soil mechanics, on experimental research using the existing extensive laboratory facilities and on topics of environmental research in geotechnics.

The new professor is expected to participate in and develop the research profile of Ruhr-Universität in the various key research topics of the department, e.g. the DFG Collaborative Research Center SFB 837 "Interaction Modeling for Mechanised Tunneling", and the Research Department "Subsurface Modeling and Engineering".

Teaching is expected in compulsory and optional compulsory courses of the study programs Civil Engineering (B.Sc./M.Sc.), Environmental Engineering and Resource Management (B.Sc./M.Sc.) and Computational Engineering (M.Sc.).

Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. Habilitation) or significant post-doctoral research contributions and teaching experience are as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB.
